The release of Fallout Season 1 on Prime Video sparked a debate among fans over a perceived timeline discrepancy with Fallout: New Vegas. Bethesda's Todd Howard has addressed these concerns in a recent interview with IGN. Additionally, Tim Cain, the original creator of Fallout, has entered the discussion, offering his thoughts on the matter. The crux of the fan debate centers on a scene in episode 6 of Fallout Season 1, where "The Fall of Shady Sands" is noted on a chalkboard as occurring in 2277. This detail caused unrest among fans because if Shady Sands fell in 2277, it would contradict the timeline of New Vegas, which is set four years later. Howard clarified in an interview that all events from the previous games, including New Vegas, did occur, and the bomb falls shortly after New Vegas's events. Cain also contributed to the conversation with a video on YouTube, questioning the veracity of the timeline as presented on the chalkboard. He suggests that the dates could be incorrect, either intentionally misleading or simply mistaken. Cain's commentary highlights the series' history of "unreliable narrators," suggesting that even the dates within the games could be inaccurate.
