Embracer Group, the game company, has recently announced its decision to split into three separate companies. Each of these companies will be publicly listed. Here’s a breakdown of the three entities:

  1. Asmodee Group: This company focuses on tabletop games. Asmodee owns over 300 intellectual properties (IPs), including popular board games like Ticket to Ride, 7 Wonders, Azul, CATAN, Dobble, and Exploding Kittens. Additionally, Asmodee is currently developing licensed tabletop games based on franchises such as The Lord of the Rings, Marvel, Game of Thrones, Netflix, Lego, and Star Wars1.

  2. Coffee Stain & Friends: This entity will concentrate on creating indie and A/AA premium games for PC, console, and mobile platforms. Some of the intellectual properties associated with Coffee Stain & Friends include Deep Rock Galactic, Goat Simulator, Satisfactory, Wreckfest, Teardown, and Valheim (part-owned), among others1.

  3. Middle-earth Enterprises & Friends: This company will focus on AAA game development and publishing for PC and consoles. Additionally, it will oversee the stewardship of iconic franchises such as The Lord of the Rings and Tomb Raider. Notable studios under Middle-earth Enterprises & Friends include Crystal Dynamics, Dambuster Studios, Eidos-Montréal, Flying Wild Hog Studios, Tripwire, Vertigo Games, Warhorse Studios, and 4A Games. The IPs associated with this group span titles like Dead Island, Killing Floor, Kingdom Come Deliverance, Metro, and Tomb Raider1.

This strategic move comes after a period of restructuring that involved staff layoffs, studio closures, and the sale of developers like Gearbox and Saber Interactive. The largest shareholder, controversial CEO Lars Wingefors, intends to establish a new long-term ownership structure and remains committed to supporting all three entities1. 🎮🌟
